Located in Gunflint Lake, MN, the Gunflint Lodge has cabins, a lodge building, gourmet restaurant, and various family activities.
John and Mindy Fredrikson realized their long-time dream of embracing the North Woods resort lifestyle by acquiring the Gunflint Lodge and Gunflint Northwoods Outfitters, a staple on the Minnesota-Ontario border since 1925. The Gunflint Lodge has 125 beds in its cabins, a lodge building, a gourmet restaurant, and activities such as horseback riding, ski trails, and a zip line through beautiful wooded country and 100 acres of lakeshore property.
The Fredrikson’s roots are in the Dakotas. After having worked in the Twin cities and Atlanta, they got serious a few years ago to make their dream come true and started their search for just the right resort. Their search led them to seek the assistance of the UMD CED, whose business consultants helped make the right connections with realtors, lodge owners, lenders including the SBA through MBFC, and additional advisors. As John stated, “we’ve always loved Northern Minnesota and were finally able to get the stars to align.”
John and Mindy plan to continue the traditions of the Gunflint Lodge and outfitting operation by embracing the business and getting to know their guests and the community. Gunflint Lodge is located 43 miles north of Grand Marais on Gunflint Lake (gunflint.com).
